Let the Good Times Enroll!

Stay Covered Challenge Project: The proposed project utilizes three educational graphics to illustrate the importance of Medicaid coverage for those with disabilities and to educate them on how to maintain or enroll in Medicaid coverage. There are two graphics in the Consumer brochure targeting enrollees and recipients and one graphic in the Community-based Organization (CBO) & Provider design targeting CBOs and providers.

Consumer brochure: The brochure contains two graphics (front and back) that provide basic information about Medicaid. Both graphics are Americans with Disabilities Act compliant as their colors are color-blind friendly. The goal of the front graphic is to reach individuals who are eligible for Medicaid, regardless of their enrollment status. It grabs the attention of the viewer and very briefly explains how Medicaid can help the individual. For the back graphic, the goal is to inform individuals who are currently enrolled in Medicaid how they can maintain health coverage. NO/AIDS Task Force staff has identified three key problem areas that commonly lead to Medicaid enrollees unintentionally losing coverage:

  • When an enrollee moves, they need to ensure Medicaid has their new address.
  • When an enrollee receives mail from Medicaid, they need to open it and not ignore it.
  • If an enrollee does not understand the piece of mail Medicaid sent them, they need to bring it to someone (case worker, social worker, etc.) that can explain it to them.

This graphic addresses these issues by alerting the reader that it is possible to accidentally lose Medicaid coverage, but they can avoid this by checking their mail for a letter from Medicaid. The graphic also shows pictures of what logos may appear on letters mailed to them from Medicaid. Finally, the graphic informs the patient that in the event they do not understand the letter they received from Medicaid, they should bring it to their case manager/social worker to help explain the letter to them.

The Consumer design will be formatted as a multi-fold, double-sided brochure. The method of distribution will be to include the brochure in the bag of prescriptions that a customer picks up from their pharmacy. Pharmacies we anticipate partnering with to distribute the brochure are Avita Drugs Pharmacy, LSU Patient Pharmacy, Uptown Pharmacy and select area Walgreens.

CBO & Provider design: This design encourages community-based organizations and providers speak with their clients about the importance of the information in the Consumer brochure. NATF believes that face-to-face contact with a provider is a powerful way to reach clients at risk for churn, especially when rapport exists between the client and the provider. CBOs and providers likely know their clients well and will be able to more easily identify individuals at risk. The method of distribution for this design will be inclusion of the graphic in email signatures. By utilizing an eye catching graphic explaining the importance of Medicaid and pairing it with a hyperlink to information that can be disseminated to clients effective use can be made of the day to day communication that providers typically engage in amongst themselves.
